R240k drugs recovered in ongoing Point area operation

Drugs worth R140 000 were recovered on Monday following another Drug bust on Thursday, December 16 when drugs worth R100 000 were found.

POLICE officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit are clamping down on illegal drugs deals in the Point area.

Several suspects were arrested recently as police continue Festive Season Operations in Durban and surrounding areas.

On Monday, December 20 the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit arrested a 39-year-old suspect at a block of flats on Gillespie Street.

According to SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, the suspect was found in possession of methcathinone that was sealed in a clear plastic packet.

“The recovered drugs are valued at R147 500,” said Mbele.

This follows another arrest on December 16, during a sting operation on Prince Street.

SAPS spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala said police recovered various drugs, including 96 plastic bags of methcathinone, 12 plastic wrappings of cocaine powder, nine plastic bags of crystal meth and 358 ecstasy tablets.

The drugs were found abandoned in the building. The team then made their way to Rutherford Street where three suspects, aged between 34 and 50, were caught.

“The recovered drugs have an estimated street value of R100 000. The suspects were charged for dealing in and the possession of drugs,” said Gwala.
