Umbilo SAPS arrest five suspects in toy gun robbery

A woman, who reported an armed robbery, positively identified the suspects who stole her cellphone.

A GANG of suspects was arrested after police caught them with five stolen cellphones during a vehicle stop and search operation on Thursday, December 2 at about 16:00. Police also found a toy gun in their possession.

According to SAPS spokeperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, the Umbilo Task Team stopped a vehicle with no number plates on Rick Turner Avenue. A similar vehicle description had been circulated after two armed robberies were reported in Bellair earlier that day.

“The team searched four men, aged between 21 and 26 years old, who were in the vehicle and found a toy firearm as well as five cellphones in their possession,” said Mbele.
