City urges undertakers to register on database

Undertakers and monumentalists must ensure they have the relevant documents before registering.

IN an attempt to stop the growing number of illegal practices in the funeral sector, the eThekwini Municipality has called on all undertakers and monumentalists operating in the district to register or renew their details on the municipal database.

The deadline to register and renew their status is November 30.

The acting head of the parks, recreation and culture unit, Vusi Mazibuko said the municipality was concerned about the increase of illegal operators in the sector.

“This practice has a negative impact not only on the business sector, but grieving families as well. By registering on the data base, this will allow undertakers and monumentalists to be empowered with relevant skills to ensure compliance and that the sector is well regulated” he said.

Registration forms are obtainable from the 7th floor, Delta Towers Building, 303 Dr Pixley KaSeme (West) Street.
The following documents are required to register: an identity document, a CK document and certificate of competence.
