His interest in politics sparked when he was studying architecture at the Nelson Mandela University in P.E. He joined the Democratic Alliance Students Organisation (DASO) in 2012.

“I was the head of the debating union and it was a passion of mine to discuss issues critically. After a while, I became tired of just discussing the issue and wanted to do something active to address issues. I felt that politics was the best way to address issues,” he said.

As he takes up his new post, Mngadi said he hopes to improve service delivery and address social ills in the ward.

“There are a lot of structural issues in the municipality, such as basic service delivery, grass cutting and streetlights. You need someone who is constantly engaging with the City. I am also interested in social issues affecting our ward such as sex work and crime. I would like to use the platform to address the issues,” he said.
