Two security guards killed in Springfield business robbery

Van Reenen said Mayville SAPS were on scene and will be investigating.

TWO security officers were shot and killed in a business robbery in Springfield, Durban earlier today.

The spokesperson for Emer-G-Med Paramedics, Kyle Van Reenen said they responded to the scene on Londonderry Crescent, where two men were found with gunshot wounds.

“One man was found to have sustained fatal wounds and there was nothing paramedics could do to assist him. He was declared dead on arrival,” he said.

The second man was in a critical condition and advanced life support paramedics worked fervently to save the man, however, he succumbed to his injuries and died on the scene.

“Reports from the scene allege the men were working as security officers at the business when they were confronted by armed suspects during a business robbery. A shootout ensued, resulting in the tragedy,” he said.
