DUT’s 8th annual Digifest 8 goes virtual

The theme for this year's festival is UNMASKED and the exhibitions were selected according to their relevance with the theme, which reflects the notion of unleashing.

THE Faculty of Arts and Design at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) is going virtual this year with its 8th annual Arts and Design Digital Festival (Digifest 8), that started today (Tuesday, 0ctober 19) and will run until  Thursday, October 21.

This year’s event will feature 48 virtual exhibitions by emerging and established artists.

Digifest will showcase the work produced by DUT students and staff, as well as other artists from South Africa, America, the United Kingdom, the Mediterranean and Asia.

The Digifest manager, Jodie Du Plessis said the students and staff from departments within their faculty have produced absolutely amazing work for Digifest 8.

“You can find them in collections like Utopia/Dystopia. Other departments, like drama, are exhibiting their one-of-a-kind productions. Some students have also submitted their individual work for exhibition, which can be found in any of the fashion exhibitions, like Kuhle kwembali echuma emhlabeni wezibi,” said Du Plessis.

She said students from other faculties have also submitted their innovative creations for Digifest 8.

“We are extremely lucky with the participation of other institutions and individual artists from across South Africa. This year’s festival is themed UNMASKED and the exhibitions were selected, according to their relevance with the theme, which reflects the notion of unleashing,” she said.

Furthermore, Du Plessis highlighted that submissions fitted into one or both categories of UNMASKED and incorporated a fine blend of creativity, technology, innovation, and/or entrepreneurship.

Du Plessis described the level and quality of works on display at Digifest 8 as top-notch and promises to be a feast for art and technology lovers.
