Restaurant owner shot twice, drives to safety

Maxi Mqadi, the owner of popular Max’s Lifestyle Restaurant in Umlazi, was attacked by unknown gunmen while leaving his business premises last night.

UMLAZI police are investigating an attempted murder after a renowned local businessman, Maxi Mqadi, was shot twice last night.

The provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker said Mqadi, the owner of the popular Max’s Lifestyle Restaurant in Umlazi, was attacked by unknown gunmen while leaving his business premises on Thursday night, 14 October.

“The victim sustained two gunshot wounds, but he was able to drive himself safely to Florida Road before seeking assistance. He was taken to a local hospital where he is reported to be in a stable condition,” said Naicker.

He alluded that an attempted murder case is being investigated by Umlazi SAPS. Mqadi is a celebrated local hero after he turned his small butchery shisa nyama into one of the country’s most popular restaurants.
