TAFTA to build low-cost clinic for elderly

The Association for the Aged hopes to convert an available space at its Kings Hall Home into the low-cost clinic.

AS the Covid-19 pandemic continues, the Durban-based NPO, The Association for the Aged (TAFTA) launched an initiative to assist the elderly with access to healthcare.

In a statement, Tafta’s CEO, Femada Shamam said the organisation hopes to build a new, low-cost clinic by converting a space available at its Kings Hall Home.

Shaman said the space needs to be partitioned and painted, and ablutions need to be installed.

To convert the space into a functioning clinic, TAFTA will need fill the space with examination tables, desks, filing cabinets, waiting room chairs, medical equipment and supplies.

“Residents and elders living nearby will be able to access services tailored to their specific needs. Wound care, cholesterol and diabetes testing, blood pressure monitoring and mental health services will be offered,” said Shamam.

“Those living further afield will be treated at a mobile unit that will travel to other TAFTA Homes, as well as into local communities,” she added.
