Pregnant woman narrowly escapes serious crash

A woman, who is eight months pregnant, was a passenger in one of the vehicles.

A PREGNANT woman narrowly escaped with her life after a serious motor vehicle collision on Gladys Manzi Road at the intersection of Osborne Street on Monday, September 20. 

Spokesperson for Emer-G-Med paramedics, Kyle Van Reenen said they responded to the scene at 14:00, along with Durban Metro Police Search and Rescue, Ethekwini Fire and Rescue and ER24.

On scene, two light motor vehicles were found to have collided head on, causing one of the vehicles to come to a rest against a boundary fence. A mother-to-be was a passenger in one of the vehicles and suffered minor injuries. She was treated on scene and taken to a nearby hospital,” he said.

An additional four patients were treated on the scene.

“Three men, aged between 20 and 30, were found freeing themselves from the second vehicle while a forth was trapped in the wreckage. Rescue technicians from eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services used specialised hydraulic tools to free him. All four men were treated for moderate injuries and transported to hospital,” said Van Reenen.
