Here’s where you can register to vote in the upcoming election

There are eight voting stations in Ward 33.

WARD 33 councillor, Mmabatho Tembe has urged residents to register to vote in the upcoming by-election. This as the Constitutional Court last week ruled that the elections will take place between October 27 and November 1 with a registration weekend scheduled for September 18 and 19.

“It is your democratic right to vote so and you should exercise it. This is the only way to try to make effective change in our municipality,” said Mmabatho.

PR councillor in eThekwini and DA caucus leader, councillor Nicole Graham added: “I encourage everyone to vote, you can register online or on September 18 and 19, and if you need any assistance please contact your local DA councillor.”

Addressing the media last Monday, the Commission’s Chairperson Glen Mashinini said: “Having considered and deliberated on the matter, the Commission has made a determination that a registration weekend is a necessity ahead of this general election.”

Mashinini said the Commission has advised the Cogta Minister that it will be proceeding with the registration weekend and the Minister will announce the date of the election on September 20.

According to the Commission, there are currently 77 970 candidates of which 911 are independent. The Commission says it has acquired 40 000 Voter Management Devices which will be used for the first time over the registration weekend.

The devices will be functioning online in most stations. This will facilitate the process of voter verification almost instantaneously.
