Netball activities to resume in SA with immediate effect

Netball South Africa president, Cecilia Molokwane, said all districts and provinces are allowed to host training, clinics, and workshops of not more than 50 people.

FOLLOWING the suspension of their planned activities last month, due to the surge in Covid-19 cases, Netball South Africa (NSA) is now allowed to resume with their netball activities today, July 27.

According to Netball South Africa president, Cecilia Molokwane, they are delighted that they are now allowed to continue playing netball. She said the federation has been working hard behind the scenes to ensure that when it is safe to resume play, it is all systems go.

“As we get ready to do this, we will make sure that we adhere to very strict health and safety protocols as set by the government and our Covid-19 compliance teams. We still maintain that preserving lives is much more important than playing the game, it is therefore important that we do everything it takes to protect each other as we play netball. With immediate effect, all netball in South Africa is allowed,” said Molokwane.

She said the SPAR National Championships, which are traditionally hosted in August, will this year again be postponed and will take place later in the year around December. This postponement comes after the teams had been unable to train together for some time due to Covid restrictions.

“The resumption of netball activities means that the federation can now get ready to host the much-anticipated Telkom Netball League which is a semi-professional league that is scheduled to take place in a few weeks. More information on this will be made available very soon,” she said.

The Junior National Championships, Twizza Netball Club Championships, Male National Championships, and the SPAR Proteas training camps are some of the many events that are scheduled to resume this year considering lockdown restrictions. Molokwane said all districts and provinces are allowed to host training, clinics, and workshops of not more than 50 people.

In the event that there are matches or training, all the players, technical team, coaching staff, and medical staff is allowed in the venue.

“We understand that this stop-start may be challenging however this is done for the well-being of everyone and we will continue to do whatever it takes to make sure that netball resumes, and lives are spared at all times. We all need to work together and make sure that we do all things right. We are living in unprecedented times, and we are challenged to be flexible enough and be able to adapt to change as and when required to do so, “she said.

More information and a list of all the planned activities that are set to resume will be available across all Netball South Africa social media platforms including the website.
