Durban NPO spreads joy through Soul2Sole project

The registered NPO raises money and supports various humanitarian, environmental and conservation projects throughout Africa.

THROUGH its Soul2Sole project, a Windermere-based non-profit organisation, known as The Blue Sky Society, recently distributed 3767 new and previously loved shoes to underprivileged children.

Durban resident, Carla Geyser, who manages the organisation, said although they have big ideas and huge fundraising prospects, the ripple of change begins with residents.

Shedding light on how the Soul2Sole Project started, Geyser said, “I went on a trip called the Put Foot Rally in 2012 and we donated school shoes to a school in Livingston (Zambia).

I realised that there are still over 7 million children in Africa who walk to school every day having not owned or worn a pair of new school shoes in their lives.

“Something so simple that many of us take for granted. So I decided to start Soul2Sole (from the heart to the foot) which I launched in 2015 and since then the project has grown from year to year.”

She said the Lion Match Group came on board as a CSR partner in 2016 and then Aramex as their logistics partner in 2018, to deliver the shoes around the country.

“The sky’s the limit for what we can achieve and our vision is to identify and manage various projects where people can give of their time, expertise, ideas and funds to recognised charities and support the valuable work they do. We want to connect you with causes you are passionate about and together make a genuine difference in this beautiful place we call ‘Mamma Africa’. Blue Sky Society Trust focuses on raising funds and awareness for conservation, humanitarian and environmental projects,” said Geyser.

She said they also arrange unique once- off ‘Journeys with Purpose’ expeditions with a strong conservational focus which sadly have come to a halt this past year due to the pandemic.

“I believe that when we all work together and support each other we are so much stronger than on our own,” she added.
