That’s a wrap for Glenwood mural

Christopher Beresford, chairman of the Glenwood UIP said the mural would uplift the area.

ARTISTS and stakeholders unveiled the completed mural in Glenwood on Friday last week. Decorating the wall of Glenwood Preparatory School on Bluwer Road, the mural adds a splash of colour to the area.

Four artists worked on the project from 8am until 3pm for four days, said Robin Opperman of Umcebo Designs who designed the mural. Working alongside him were artists: Katelynn Jamieson, Ansa Liebenberg and Chantal Van Rensburg.

Opperman thanked the Glenwood Urban Improvement Precinct who assisted in organising the project.

“When you paint a public wall, the UIP are very helpful in getting the correct permission that is needed. When we were painting there was a UIP gazebo set up so people felt very comfortable to approach us. We had a lot of support from the community. People even brought their children down to take photos in front of the mural,” he said.

Despite the mammoth task, Opperman said he is ready to tackle another mural soon.

“Painting a mural is a big project, but this was such a good experience that we are energised and ready to paint another mural soon. For us, it’s an open road ahead,” he said.

Christopher Beresford, chairman of the Glenwood UIP said the mural would uplift the area.

“We would like to thank Robin and his team for creating this uplifting mural as well as Sam Harwood for her financial input and the school for allowing us to paint their wall. The aim of the mural is to bring joy to people walking or driving past- especially after the tough times we have had with the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
