SAPS nab two suspects for robbery in Durban

One suspect was found with a knife while the other, who was carrying an airgun, had the complainant's cell phone. 

TWO suspects were arrested moments after robbing a man of his cellphone in central Durban at the weekend.

Spokesperson for the Durban Central SAPS,  Captain Muzi Maphumulo said members were on patrol around The Workshop on Saturday, 8 May when they were alerted to a robbery.

“They were approached by a complainant who claimed he was robbed at gunpoint. The members promptly gave chase and managed to apprehend the two suspects,” he said.

According to Maphumulo, one suspect was found with a knife while the other, who was carrying an airgun, had the complainant’s cell phone. 

“The third suspect managed to evade being apprehended and fled into the crowd. Both suspects were subsequently arrested for robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon,” said Maphumulo.

“The complainant was elated with the swift response of the police, the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of his property. Attempts to apprehend the suspects will be earnestly followed up by the Tracing Team. The detectives will link the suspects with other similar cases,” he added.

The acting station commander Colonel Parumasur applauded members for their excellent work.
