VIDEO: Panday’s family granted bail for 2010 World Cup corruption case

The nine accused will appear in the Durban High Court on 21 May.

TOSHAN Panday’s family members and former personal assistant were granted bail at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday, when they appeared briefly on charges of racketeering, fraud, and money laundering.

They were arrested by the NPA’s Investigating Directorate (ID) and charged in connection with the R47m police accommodation fraud that took place in 2010.

According to Investigative Directorate spokesperson Sindisiwe Seboka, Toshan Panday’s mother Arevenda Panday, his wife, Privisha Panday and his sister, Kajal Ishwarkumar, were granted R5000 bail.

“Panday’s brother-in-law, Seveesh Maharaj Ishwarkumar and Toshan Panday’s personal assistant, Tasleem Rahiman were granted R10 000 bail,” said Seboka.

She said all nine accused will appear in the Durban High Court on 21 May.

Seboka added that the family members registered companies in 2009 in anticipation of the soccer world cup, the companies then allegedly channelled the proceeds to Toshan.

“The companies owned by the family members in question are Bravosat 25 cc, Valotone 21 cc, Kaseev Traders CC. Rahiman (Panday’s former personal assistant) also faces charges of forgery for aiding the alleged organised syndicate score contracts with the KwaZulu-Natal Police. The new additions will join former KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, Colonel Navin Madhoe, former police captain Aswin Narainpershad and businessman, Toshan Panday,” she said.
