Suspects nabbed with drugs worth R58k at Durban flat

Police recovered cocaine powder in 140 plastic wrappings and five ziplock plastic packets.

TWO suspects, aged 22 and 31, are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.

The suspects were arrested yesterday in a flat on Acutt Street, Durban, for dealing in and possession of drugs worth R58 000. 

SAPS spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said, “An operation was carried out yesterday where officers from Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit proceeded to a flat on Acutt Street to execute a search warrant.

They pounced on the unsuspecting suspects and a search was conducted in the flat. Police recovered cocaine powder in 140 plastic wrappings and five ziplock plastic packets.

The total value of the recovered drugs is R58 000,” said Capt Gwala.

She added that a follow up investigation was conducted and it led the team to Victoria Embankment where 6000 empty blue and clear capsules were found abandoned.

“The capsules were destined to be packed with heroin. The estimated street value of the recovered capsules is R8 000,” she said.    

Gwala said drug operations are still ongoing in the province to minimise the widespread use and abuse of drugs.
