Policeman shot in alleged cash-in-transit heist

The policeman was stabilised at the scene.

A POLICEMAN has been shot and critically wounded in what is believed to have been a cash-in-transit heist.

The policeman is said to have been shot in the chest late on Tuesday afternoon near a popular shopping mall along Dr A.B Xuma Street in Durban central, said Kyle can Reenen, spokesman for Rescue Care.

“Reports from the scene indicate the police member took fire from a number of armed suspects during an attempted cash-in-transit robbery,” added Van Reenen.

He confirmed that he officer had been stabilised at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital.
