Gang of seven suspects rob Umbilo business

The suspects fled the scene when a security guard spotted them taking boxes out of the window.

A GANG of seven suspects used a ladder to break into the second floor of business premises on Sydney Road in Umbilo at the weekend.

Operations director for Blue Security, Brian Jackson said the suspects fled the scene when a security guard spotted them taking boxes out of the window.

“They left behind nine sealed boxes on the second-floor ledge which Blue Armed Response helped retrieve,” he said.

“Armed response waited for the keyholder to arrive and handed over the goods. SAPS also attended the scene,” added Jackson.

He said this was one of several break-ins in and around the area.

“Several small businesses, open for operation in the daytime, as well as larger businesses, closed for the weekend, were robbed by criminals at the weekend,” said Jackosn.

Cellphones and jewellery were taken by the suspects who fled in a white VW Polo. In Brairdene, north of Durban suspects gained access to yet another business, this time through the roof. The owner reported a high volume of stock lost. At a center, in Bellair, two suspects with firearms brazenly walked into a small business in the light of day. Another robbery occurred in Gale Street in Durban, where the pedestrian door to the premises was cut open, computers and supplies were taken,” he concluded.
