Durban car burglar linked to second case following arrest

The three suspects, aged between 32 and 37, will appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court soon.

ONE of the three suspects arrested in Durban North has been linked to a case of theft in the Sherwood area. 

The arrest was made on Monday afternoon (12 April) by police officers who were conducting patrols in the Durban North area, said KZN police spokesperson, Col Thembeka Mbele.  

Upon approaching the suspects, the officers noticed that the men were tampering with the ignition of a white VW Polo parked in a parking lot.

The door, she said, had also been damaged.  

“There was a vehicle that was waiting for the suspects and upon seeing the police officers, the two suspects jumped into the vehicle. The driver attempted to flee the scene, but was cornered by police officers. A search was conducted and various number plates, a two-way radio and two bags containing car breaking implements were found in the suspect’s possession,” added Mbele.

It is believed one of the suspects was involved in a similar case reported at the Sydenham police station. 

Mbele said two laptops had reportedly been stolen from a vehicle parked at a service station in Sherwood on 6 April at around 5pm, said Mbele. 

These suspects, aged between 32 and 37, are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon where they will be facing charges of attempted theft of a motor vehicle and possession of car breaking implements.
