Kings Park pool revamp starts

The Kings Park Swimming Pool is currently being revamped by the municipality.

IN an effort to keep municipal swimming pools in good condition, eThekwini Municipality has announced work has started on the rehabilitation of the Kings Park Swimming Pool.

Speaking at the Parks, Recreation and Culture (PRC) Unit’s level management meeting on last Friday, head of unit, Thembinkosi Ngcobo, said the revamp of this pool, which has hosted major local and international events in the past, forms part of a comprehensive maintenance programme for all swimming pools in the city.

Ngcobo commented that the roof at Kings Park Swimming Pool was damaged during the storms of 2017/18. He said this was a natural disaster which was unplanned and the City was currently engaging with its insurers regarding a claim to have this repaired. He said a combination of municipal departments was hard at work preparing for renovations at the pool.

He said: “Prior to hosting any event, the necessary preparations are done to safeguard the wellbeing of participants. We cannot compromise the health and safety of patrons at any of our facilities.”

He said the unit had felt the impact of Covid-19 which has delayed repair work at the pool which, if not for the pandemic, would be functioning at full capacity.
