New players expected at 2010 World Cup corruption trial

The case has been moved to the Durban High Court for trial.

NEW faces are expected appear in court when the 2010 World Cup Corruption trial resumes on Monday morning.  

Infamous Durban businessman Thoshan Panday and other former senior police officials have been charged with colluding to defraud the government in relation to a R47 million accommodation tender during the world cup.

The case will now be heard at the Durban High Court after the state prosecution team successfully acquired a racketeering certificate from the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Shamila Batohi.

During the last court appearance in December, Investigative Directorate Spokesperson, Sindisiwe Twala, said there would be more people arrested and charged before Monday’s  court appearance. 

A short pre-trial hearing is expected on Monday.
