Covid positive families receive a helping hand

The programme aims to assist destitute families who have a positive Covid-19 case.

CONCERNED Durban residents have started an initiative to assist people who have tested positive for Covid-19.

“When you test positive for Covid, you cannot work and you have to isolate and for some people that can be hard. So what we want to do is lend a helping hand to people who cannot afford to isolate,” said Adian David, eThekwini Outer South Cluster CPF chairperson, one of the founders of this initiative.

“Essentially we want people who have tested positive to be as comfortable as they possibly can because we are living through hard economic times now.”

The Covid Assist programme is a collaboration between Adian David, PT Alarms and the community of Isipingo. David said it is available for residents living in Musgrave, central Durban and Isipingo.

A dedicated vehicle has been assigned to assist every Covid positive household in these communities, said David. How the programme works is that a family that is under quarantine will send a list of their needs to 0670222505 which is a dedicated line for this Covid assist programme.

“This service will be available only between 10am and 2pm everyday. We will not allow any Covid positive family to become destitute or forgotten because of this pandemic. Together we can fight this pandemic,” said David.
