Three men arrested in Durban for transporting, dealing in liquor

The liquor was confiscated and all three suspects were charged in terms of the Disaster Management Act.

THREE suspects were arrested at OR Tambo Parade, on 3 January at 6pm, for transportation of liquor during level 3 lockdown and allegedly dealing in liquor.

According to Capt Muzi Maphumulo from Durban Central SAPS, the police officers asked the driver of the vehicle to stop, in order to do a routine search to enforce curfew regulations, when they discovered that the men were transporting alcohol.

“The liquor which was being transported was confiscated, and all three were charged in terms of the Disaster Management Act,” said Maphumulo.

He said Durban Central police are continuing to do roadblocks to check the compliance of curfew regulations in order to curb the spread of Covid. “The members are also doing patrols to eradicate any criminal elements in Durban.  There have been more than 10 people who were charged in Durban for either failing to wear masks when ordered by police officers, and some for failing to be confined to a residential place without permission,” he said.
