Murder suspects appear in Durban court

Durban police made a swift arrest of the three murder suspects over Christmas.

THREE murder suspects made their first appearance in Durban Magistrate’s Court following their arrest between 25 and 26 December.

Capt Muzi Maphumulo from Durban Central SAPS said this comes after a man had been beaten to death with a sjambok by the three suspects on 25 December, after he was accused of stealing R6 000 from them.

“On 26 December at 8am, Durban Central members attended the murder scene in Julius Nyerere Road, Durban. The police cracked the case quickly with the help of informers,” said Maphumulo.

He said the swift investigation led to the arrest of all three suspects.

“Two suspects were arrested in the Julius Nyerere Road area, and the third suspect was arrested in Victoria Street, Durban. All the suspects are ‘trolley boys’ who assist the hawkers with their property storage,” he said.

The three suspects were aged between 25 and 34 years.
