INVESTIGATORS from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in the province managed to secure 10 life sentences for sexual-related cases.
Captain Nqobile Gwala from provincial SAPS said the team made sure that justice is served to victims of sexual abuse. “A total of 34 convictions with 277 years were secured at various courts in the province,” she said.

From 1 October until 31 October, 409 suspects were arrested for various cases such as rape, sexual assault, statutory rape, child abandonment, kidnapping, attempted murder and other cases. These convictions and arrests were made in different areas of the province.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Khombinkosi Jula welcomed the sentences handed down to the culprits. “As we are approaching the 16 Days of Activism, we will make sure that we leave no stone unturned in our endeavour to bring justice to victims of sexual offences,” he said.
