Mayor to launch Durban climate action plan

The aim of the plan is to transition the City towards carbon neutrality and climate resilience by 2050.

ETHEKWINI Municipality Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda is inviting the community to the official launch of the Durban Climate Action Plan on 3 September.

The aim of the plan, which is in accordance with the Paris Agreement to reduce global temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius and builds on the 2015 Durban Climate Change Strategy, is to transition the City towards carbon neutrality and climate resilience by 2050.

South Africa’s climate change legislation, as seen in the proposed Climate Change Bill, will introduce a requirement for Mayors and MECs to develop their own Climate Change Action Plans (CAP) of which implementation will be monitored and reported to National Government on an annual basis.
