WATCH: Penzance Primary staff take on Jerusalema Dance

"We wanted our Penzance families to see that even during Covid, we are still the same fun and awesome staff." - Angela Visick, PR.

AN uplifting video of staff at Penzance Primary School doing the Jerusalema Dance has gone viral on social media in a time when positive news is much needed.

The Facebook post stated the dance was filmed during the Covid-19 pandemic to show appreciation to all workers, as a prayer for people going through tough times and as a celebration of the school.

Teachers were looking forward to seeing all grades back at school this week.

Commenting on the dance, school marketing and public relations officer, Angela Visick, said Penzance staff have always been a social staff and often do team building exercises and have get togethers.

“Since Covid and our very strict social distancing protocols at school, we don’t get to even see each other during the day,” she said.

Angela said last Thursday she approached the school principal, Hennie Havemann, to ask if she could arrange the Jerusalema Dance as a staff team building exercise and a bit of fun which they all so miss at school.

“On Thursday afternoon I sent a video link to all the staff to practice at home.  On Friday morning we met on the field and had two practice runs and then we filmed it!  We wanted our Penzance families to see that even during Covid, we are still the same fun and awesome staff and that even during this terrible time, life needs to be celebrated!” she said.

Angela said they had received a positive response from many past and current learners and families.
