The 99-year-old national non-profit organisation (NPO) says staff risk their lives every day by coming in to work to provide care for the 700 residents, which include the aged, frail, physically and mentally challenged as well as abused women and children.

The home has five facilities int he greater Durban area and employs nurses, nursing assistants, carers and physiotherapy assistants to provide healthcare to its residents.

Many elderly residents are very frail and require 24-hour nursing care.

Naren Pattundeen, interim CEO of the ABH said: “We have successfully raised money to reduce the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. As the number of cases increase, we fear that our dedicated staff will be exposed. We need to look after them by providing them with personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves. We are appealing to the community to share our link with family and friends.”
