Embrace the cause

The DRU is appealing to the community of Durban to support the Prevention and Hygiene Drive.

THE Domino Foundation’s Disaster Relief Unit (DRU) has gone into top gear to educate community, staff and partners through its prevention strategy and communication wherever it can.

After meeting with eThewkini Disaster Management Officials, Cathy Whittle, team leader of the DRU, stressed the need for individuals to take their role to heart in facing the intense disruption the State of Emergency is causing.

“When people ask, ‘Am I my responsible for my neighbour and community?’ the answer is an emphatic ‘Yes, Yebo, Ja!’ – it is everyone’s responsibility to protect themselves and care for one another. Sadly, we have seen a stampede of panic-buying as people have stockpiled to the detriment of others,” she said.

Cathy said there are many vulnerable people who either cannot afford to buy expensive handsanitisers or find that there simply is no more stock on the shelves for them to buy.

The DRU is appealing to the community of Durban to support the Prevention and Hygiene Drive and donate wet-wipes, hand sanitisers, bars of soaps, bleach, household disinfectants, toilet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste and five litre bottles of still water.

“We are networking with other city NPOs such as Zoe Life, City Hope and The Red Cross, as part of the recently-formed KZN Disaster Response Team, are in an agile position to get these items to those who are most in need,” said Cathy.

Individuals and business concerns wanting to be proactive part of this healthy comm-unity campaign can drop their donations with Omer at The Domino Foundation’s Front Security Drop off Zone at 37 Mackeurtan Avenue, Durban North. Contact Cathy at feeding@domino.org.za or 031 563 9605.
