No move to cancel Comrades over Coronavirus

The Comrades Marathon said they are monitoring the situation.

THE Comrades Marathon says it has no plans of cancelling it’s 95th race over the Coronavirus pandemic.

“We currently have no intention of cancelling the #Comrades2020,” said Rowyn James, Comrades Marathon Race Director, in a statement.

“Together with our race doctor, the Department of Health and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, we are monitoring the situation and will keep our athletes and stakeholders informed.”

The Comrades is one of Africa’s most famous races, attracting some of the best runners from across the world.

The 2020 Comrades Marathon will be run on Sunday, 14 June 2020, starting at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall at 5.30am and finishing 12 hours later at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban

Last week, South Africa confirmed its first case of Coronavirus after a 38-year-old a KwaZulu-Natal Midlands man tested positive for covid-19.
The Durban International Convention Centre also released a statement saying there’s been no cancellation of any booked events over Coronavirus fears.

The ICC is set to host the World Football Summit Africa on 17 – 18 March where delegates from across the world are expected attend.
