Rhythm thrash Quins in league match

Quins lost to Rhythm by more than 100 runs in a league match on Sunday.

THREE Harlequins Cricket Club’s teams were engaged in league match activity at the weekend.

Quins’ flagship team played against Rhythm at DHS. Rhythm batted first, and the team’s openers accumulated a century partnership in just 17 overs. Fast bowler Kevin Kettle then trapped a Rhythm opener LBW and had Rhytym’s number three batsman caught in the midfield by Rahul Batohi in the 21st over. Medium paced seamer Faiyas Safri’s reintroduction was relatively successful when he removed three middle order batsmen. Kettle captured two wickets for 36 runs in eight overs, Faiyaz Safri took three wickets for 49 runs in seven overs and right arm orthodox spinner Brandon De Mellion claimed a wicket for 48 runs in five overs.

The team made 277 runs in 40 overs for the loss of six wickets.

Quins’ batting response was abysmal at the onset and in fact almost throughout their entire innings being well behind and favourites to lose the match by a significant margin. A stand out performance included a dynamic innings by middle order batsman Kettle, who took on the Rhythm bowlers single handedly striking seven boundaries, accruing 46 runs in quick time. Rhythm won by 104 runs. Quins hopes to bounce back in its next 50 over match against Hillary Malvern at Quins on 1 March.

Other team results: Quins’ 6ths beat Chatsworth United 4.

Quins’ top four teams have matches scheduled for Sunday, 1 March. The sixth and U13 sides have completed their 30 over format matches for the current season and are awaiting their T20 fixtures for March. Contact 073 795 0363 for further club information.
