A MAN who allegedly murdered a 30-year-old car guard in 2018, was arrested in Inanda this week.
According to Col Thembeka Mbele from provincial SAPS, Durban Central police received a complaint of a murder in Samora Machel Street next to the bus terminals and proceeded to the scene on 30 October 2018.
“On arrival they found the body of a 30-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest.”
“He was certified dead at the scene. The information received at the scene revealed that the deceased, Bongani Wiseman Nxumalo, who was a car guard, had been washing a vehicle with the suspect when an argument ensued over how to make sorghum beer,” said Mbele.

She said the argument reached boiling point and the suspect started fighting with Nxumalo.
They were separated by another car guard and both continued with their work as if nothing had happened and were later seen leaving the bus terminals.
“A few minutes later the deceased was seen bleeding from his chest and screaming for help. He collapsed, died at the scene and the suspect was seen fleeing the scene on foot. A case of murder was opened at Durban Central police station for investigation,” said Mbele.
The investigation by the Response and Tracing Task Team led officers to Inanda this week, where the 43-year-old suspect was found hiding.
He was arrested, charged with murder and will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Khombinkosi Jula commended the officers for arresting the suspect.
