Plant a tree to bring in the new year

Don’t burn your money, plant it and watch it grow, says Mitchell Park Trust.

SAY ‘No’ to fireworks! That’s the pleas from the Mitchell Park Trust which is urging communities to rather plant a tree for the new year, in the hopes that at least 2020 trees are planted as part a campaign in 2020.

Post a selfie with your tree on the Mitchell Park Trust Facebook page and tell them aboutyour tree planting so they can track progress towards the 2020 goal.

If you want to see beautiful birds in the future, plant indigenous fruit trees. Fruit trees will also provide sustenance to bees and animals who are desperately seeking food as more and more land is cleared for development.

To kickstart the campaign, members of the Mitchell Park Trust will plant 20 trees on new year’s eve.

“Say no to fireworks this new year’s day, rather spend the money on a few trees in whose shade children can sit long after the fleeting thrill of a rocket has burnt-out. Don’t burn your money, plant it,” said Dr Sanil Singh from Mitchell Park Trust.
