Thieves open fire on security officer

A bullet entered the side of the security officer's car door, slightly injuring him.

A security officer is lucky to be alive after he came under fire when responding to the scene of an attempted business burglary in Sherwood on 13 November.

Blue Security’s Andreas Mathios said the officer had responded to a panic alarm activated by a security guard at a local business park at around 7.15pm.

“When he arrived at the scene, he stopped his vehicle at the side of the road and was about to get out to investigate when a number of shots rang out in his direction. It’s unclear how many suspects opened fire on him,” Mathios said.

A bullet entered the side of the door and grazed the officer’s leg, slightly injuring him. The suspects fled the scene.

“Our tactical response team responded but the suspects managed to get away and remain at large. Rescue Care Paramedics treated the officer before transporting him to hospital,” Mathios said.

The bullet was recovered on the floor of the vehicle. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the suspects had attempted to gain entry to one of the business units in the office park.
