Entries for the X-Berg Extreme Challenge 2020 open

The challenge is to make your own way to the finish line, passing pre-determined turning points on your way.

THE thrilling X-Berg Extreme Challenge, hosted by Between Heaven and Earth, is set to return in March 2020.

The X-Berg Extreme Challenge is open for online entries and will take place on the 24 to 29 March. The self-navigational race through the Drakensberg allows participants to explore and fully immerse themselves in their natural surroundings. “The berg is an amazing playground, I can’t think of any better place to host the race,” said competitor Jon Kirkman, winner of the X-Berg Extreme Challenge 2019.

The race offers participants a choice of multiple disciplines, including trail running, mountain biking, or paragliding. With this, competitors can either have a second that follows them via the provided satellite live tracking, or opt for re-supply boxes that sit at each turning point. Athletes can choose to complete the course as a solo competitor, or in a team.

The challenge is to make your own way to the finish line, passing pre-determined turning points on your way. Trail runners cover about 160km as the crow flies, depending on the participants chosen route. Athletes need to plan their routes prior to the event and make use of provided GPS gadgets to shine a light on hidden paths – a true adventure.

If the X-Berg Extreme Challenge is a tad too extreme for you, there is also the X-Berg Mini, which is set over the course of two days starting from the 26 to 29 March, and covers about 75km depending on the chosen route.

Entries for the 2020 edition are open. Pre-entries close on the 25 February. Entries can be made online at www.xbergchallenge.com/enter/.
