Entries open for Sapphire Coast Marathon

The Goss and Balfe Sapphire Coast Marathon will be held on the South Coast on Sunday, 27 October.

ONE of the province’s most iconic marathons, the Goss and Balfe Sapphire Coast Marathon, will be returning to the upper South Coast shores on Sunday, 27 October.

The starting time has been set for 5.30am for all the three race categories – 10km, 21.1km and 42km. Early entries for this year’s event can be made online at webtickets.co.za or at any Pick ‘n Pay until Sunday, 15 September. All early-bird entrants will receive a free Goss and Balfe Sapphire Coast Marathon shirt.

Three-time winner, Janie Grundling, will be returning this year in an attempt to retain her title. The Durban resident won the ladies’ division in 42.2km in both 2014 and 2017, as well as the 21.1km last year.

This marathon is an early qualifier for both the Comrades Marathon 2020 as well as the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon 2020. Participants can collect their race packs at Hutchinson Park, Amanzimtoti on Saturday, 26 October from 10am to 5pm and Sunday, 27 October from 3.30am to 4.40am. All participants who complete the Goss and Balfe Sapphire Coast Marathon will receive medals at the finish. The race will be followed by a prize-giving ceremony which starts at 9.30am.
