ANC announces new mayoral leadership for eThekwini

MEC for Transport Mxolisi Kaunda will replace ousted Zandile Gumede and Belinda Scott, current MEC for finance will take up the deputy mayor post.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has a new mayor elect!  The ANC has announced that current MEC for Transport Mxolisi Kaunda will replace ousted Zandile Gumede and Belinda Scott, current MEC for finance, will take up the deputy mayor post.

Weziwe Thusi has been nominated as eThekwini council speaker.  The shake up in leadership in the city comes after Gumede was forced to take a leave of absence in June after she was arrested on charges of fraud and corruption in connection with a Durban Solid Waste tender. She was subsequently fired by the ANC Provincial Executive Committee acting on a recommendation by the Provincial Working Committee that she be recalled.  The ANC made a point of saying that the axing of the leadership in the Municipality was due to poor service delivery which was highlighted in a report compiled by the PWC on local governance in the province.
