Suspects arrested in Durban police operations

A number of suspects were arrested for different charges at road blocks held in Durban.

ETHEKWINI SAPS Central cluster conducted operations in the Umbilo and Durban Central areas and arrested a number of suspects on various charges.

According to Const Zanele Khomo from Durban Central, the first operation was conducted by women from different law enforcement departments including SAPS, Metro, RTI and Fire.

“One suspect was arrested for drunken and driving and a total of 63 traffic fines were issued. Some of the charges included failing to produce a driver’s licence and for overloading,” she said.

Another roadblock was conducted by Durban Central in Umgeni Road where a total of 38 suspects were arrested.

“Seventeen suspects were arrested for drunken driving and others were charged for possession of drugs, defying the Sexual Offences Act, assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and theft. All the suspects will be appearing in Durban Magistrates Court in due course,” she said.

In a separate operation on Women’s Day, Durban Central policewomen, together with Metro, conducted crime awareness operations in the central business district.

Operations were based in Victoria and Albert Streets. Stop and searches were conducted by the officers and several suspects were arrested.
