Chamber encourages support for bursary campaign

Durban Chamber CEO Palesa Phili is challenging business leaders to donate to the UKZN Bursaries for Change campaign.

THE Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Officer, Palesa Phili, has challenged her fellow business leaders, colleagues and friends to pledge a minimum of R67 or multiples thereof to the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Foundation’s ‘UKZN Bursaries for Change’ campaign to raise R8 million for 20 students to complete their studies at UKZN.

“For the second year in a row, we have partnered with the UKZN Foundation for this campaign because it epitomises our commitment to the ideals and values of Nelson Mandela,” said Phili.

Executive director of the UKZN Foundation, Prof Anesh Singh, said: “The UKZN Foundation launched the R67 for Mandela Day campaign in 2018 to involve the people of KwaZulu-Natal in assisting deserving students to complete their university education. The people of KZN collectively raised R364, 000, which provided partial bursaries for 10 students. We are grateful to the Durban Chamber for supporting and driving this campaign through to their members. I encourage the public to support this campaign with the same enthusiasm as they did last year by donating and sharing the message with others.”
