SASSA stops payment on fraudulent accounts

The department said it had identified 2800 potential fraudulent accounts.

SASSA has issued a warning to beneficiaries that it has advised banks and the Post Office across the country to stop payment on a number of fraudulent accounts.

The department said it had identified 2800 potential fraudulent accounts of which 2200 were from different banking institutions and 600 from the South frican Post Office. As a result, the department has advised the banks and Post Office to put a stop payment on the identified accounts which will stop any transactions as from the first day of the July pay cycle.

Beneficiaries who are unable to get their grants due to any reasons are advised to:

•Start at the police station and make an affidavit.

•Take their bar coded or smart card ID together with the completed affidavit to their nearest SASSA office.

• Be the lawful ID holder.

• Bring along proof of banking details.

SASSA assures all beneficiaries that they will get their social grant for the month of July as all officials are ready to assist them.
