Che Guevara Road rehabilitation halts

Rehabilitation work following a water leak was not done well, and the road had started crumbling and was getting damaged by passing cars.

WORK on part of Che Guevara (Moore) Road which was in need of urgent attention after it was dug open following a water leak earlier this year, has still not been completed.

According to Councillor Mmabatho Tembe, there was action last month on the repairs after she contacted the deputy city manager for infrastructure to escalate the process.

She said she first alerted eServices that the road hadn’t been rehabilitated after poor workmanship had resulted in the road beginning to crumble and suffering further damage from passing vehicles.

Tembe said it had taken a long time for the issue to be dealt with and although workers had started on the road rehabilitation in February initially, not enough work or manpower had been put into the job. Piles of sand had been left on the pavement while the work remained incomplete.

“Work now seems to have come to a halt once again. I sent an email to the department regarding this last week and have been told it will be looked into,” she said.
