Young artists exhibit in Durban’s Florida Road

KFC in Florida Road is hosting an art exhibition on the forecourt of the store at the weekend to showcase and sell the artworks of young emerging artists.

FLORIDA Road UIP will link up with the Travel Indaba taking place in Durban at the ICC from 2 to 4 May, and will host events in Florida Road at the weekend.

The initiative is being driven by SA Tourism and Durban Tourism which sees Florida Road as a fun and safe destination in Durban for visitors to the city wanting to have a night out.

Most delegates will be staying at the Durban beachfront hotels and Durban Tourism has arranged for buses to run between the hotels, with a stop in Florida Road (on the corner of Gordon Road) from 5pm to midnight.

Traders in the area have been asked to do something to encourage visitors and some have agreed to participate by offering specials on meals and drinks.

Next Chapter will have live music, and KFC at 149 Florida Road is hosting an art exhibition on the forecourt of the store entitled (In) Danger (Us), to showcase and sell the artworks of young emerging artists, Bhekazi Ngcobo, Joseph Manana, Jessica Bothma, Janine Zagel, Kenneth Shandu and Lindelane Ndumiso.

The artists have all been identified as excellent talents by Andries Botha, one of South Africa’s most recognised artists and sculptors globally.

The artists themselves will be at the exhibition, which will run from 6pm to 10pm on all three days, to talk about and sell their artworks.

The proceeds of every sale will go to the artists, however 10 per cent will be donated to the Umgeni Estuary Conservancy, which works to clear the estuary of debris and removes noxious and alien plants.
