Glenwood author pens book on divorce

Richard La Colombe will launch his book The Untold Emotional Harm! Children affected by separation or divorce, at the Articulate Africa Book and Art Fair on 11 April.

GLENWOOD author, Richard La Colombe, has penned his third book entitled The Untold Emotional Harm! Children affected by separation or divorce, which will be launched at the Articulate Africa Book and Art Fair on 11 April from 9am to noon.

Richard said in his book Can I Find Love Again?, he had the opportunity to give some reasons why people fall in love, and why people also fail in love and marriage, leading to break-ups. Parents can break up and find love again, however he said the question remained in his mind of how many people have listened to their children talking about their separation or divorce.

“I noticed that the most important impact of this was the affect on children in these relationships. I observed my children after my separation, and read their reactions in their physical behaviour and their school results. I decided to read up more on how to advise them in this situation, as well as others I deal with in my job as a counsellor,” he said.

He said he discovered that children react in different ways and it takes time for them to speak out over their emotional harm.

“The truth will reveal how painful this experience is for children and how they might not be able to forgive their parents. This is why I decided to write a book to stand as a voice to tell about the untold emotional harm of separation and divorce. The main concern is the parent or parents’ next step,” he said.

Richard said it took him nine months to put the book together, through the process of personal observation, through counselling sessions with children, and through reading other authors’ work on the subject.

“I’m very happy with the finished product. My daughter read it and said it touched her heart as she had reacted a lot like the children I spoke of in the book. I hope this book will help people, I am not working to make money, I aim to reach people and give them guidelines,” he said.
