Berea SAPS made a good arrest and successful convictions this week.

Cellphones recovered

TWO men were charged for being in possession of suspected stolen property on 31 March.

According to Capt Poobalan Naidoo, Berea SAPS communications officer, at around 11am, police received information about stolen cellphones being sold at the intersection of Mitchell Crescent and DLI Avenue.

“On arrival they noticed two suspicious men standing on the corner. They stopped and searched the suspects and found them in possession of around 40 cellphones. The police questioned them about the cellphones and they could not show proof of purchase,” he said.

The men were charged and detained at Berea SAPS.

Good convictions

DETECTIVE Warrant Officer B Nundlall investigated the following cases and the accused were sentenced.

In a theft case, the accused was sentenced to a fine of R3 000 or three months imprisonment, suspended for three years.

For driving under the influence of alcohol, the accused was sentenced to a R4 000 fine or four months imprisonment.

Det/Sgt W.S Bunting investigated a case of driving under the influence of alcohol, where the accused was sentenced to R2 000 or one month imprisonment, half suspended for five years.

Det/Sgt Ngwenya investigated a case of theft out of/from motor vehicle and the accused was sentenced to six months imprisonment.
