December sees return of Durban’s orange bags

Residents are encouraged to use the bags for plastics, cardboard and paper, and until collection issues facing DSW are resolved, should take bags to their nearest recycling centre.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has advised residents can expect a delivery of orange recycling bags from December, as a number of issues affecting the supply chain which disrupted distribution this year have been sorted out.

Earlier this year a forensic probe uncovered serious irregularities in the awarding of the tender to a company to supply the bags.

Mayor, Zandile Gumede, has confirmed that the city now has a different supplier.

Residents are encouraged to use the bags for plastics, cardboard and paper, and until collection issues facing DSW are resolved, should take bags to their nearest recycling centre.

Centres can be found at the following locations:

 

Durban Central

• the Brook Street Buy Back Centre at 2 Brook Street North,

• Warwick Junction, accepts cans, paper and cardboard and glass bottles

• Lorne Street Buy Back Centre in Carlisle Street, off ML Sultan Road, accepts cardboard and paper and glass bottles.

 

Other areas

• Residents can take cardboard and paper, cans, glass bottles, e-waste, plastic and garden waste to the Malacca Road Garden Refuse Community Drop Off Centre and

• Riverside Road Garden Refuse Community Drop Off Centre.

• The above items as well as used motor oil can be taken to the Garden Refuse Community Drop Off Site in Tara Road, Bluff,

• In Westville, residents can drop off cardboard and paper and glass bottles at the Community Drop Off Site in William Lester Drive.
