Hester keeps active

Hester Bekker celebrated health at the Totalsports Women’s Race.

FOR 83-year-old Durban resident, Hester Bekker, the popular Totalsports Women’s Race has, for the past eight years, become part of her life.

Hester, who likes to keep active explained that running had changed her life. “At the age of 70 I was told that I had heart failure. I knew, to overcome this I had to keep my heart and body strong and healthy. Running helped me to keep fit despite my illness and health issues. I entered the Totalsports Women’s Race to see how well I could do and realised then how competitive I was. I really enjoyed the race and did well and have entered every year since to try win my age category and better my time.”

“The vibe at the start of the race is always exciting and there is always loads of fun, laughter and chatter amongst the ladies and the entertainment is great. It’s a fantastic event. I love that PinkDrive is the beneficiary. My advice to all runners is to never give up. Be sure to do your best in every race. With God you can do all things and overcome all obstacles,” she added.
