Light burden for Malvern child centre

Providing a safe and loving home for 120 vulnerable and orphaned children, Malvern is one of the larger Child and Youth Care Centres in Durban.

The Malvern Child and Youth Care Centre is appealing to the community to aid with its R80 000 monthly utility bills.

Asking for moderate donations from many rather than a lot from a few, the centre hopes to keep the children from having to finish homework in the dark or not having a hot shower before bed.

“It doesn’t take a 4-figure digit donation to make a difference. A R100 a month commitment is all we are asking for in support of this fundraising project.

“The ever-rising cost of living, and the economic downturn has seen a decrease in financial support. Over and above the government’s child subsidy grant, a further R1,7million a year needs to be sourced from donors to keep the lights on and the doors open,” explains Lee Jarrett, PR and Fundraising Manager.
