EDITOR – During the week my domestic worker, who regularly pays for her electricity, called the care line to complain about the on/off occurrence of receiving current due to illegal connections.
In order to assist her I sent an email with details of her complaint to the department.
I was much taken aback by the positive response I received that evening getting a call near to 7pm from a polite and well informed employee saying that the matter had been seen to during the day and explaining that these illegal connections from informal settlements are a huge challenge and that they are overwhelmed by this criminality.
As these illegal “ settlers” may not by law be removed, those who are innocent have to suffer.
