KZN drug unit operations yield results

Police will continue with similar operations to eliminate the proliferation of drugs in the province.

THE Provincial Drug Unit officers tasked to root out drug trade and drug use in the KwaZulu-Natal arrested two suspects and recovered drugs with a street value of more than R30 000 and more than R5 000 cash suspected to be proceeds from drug trade.

Colonel Thembeka Mbele from provincial SAPS said in an operation conducted on Woman’s Day, a 29-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of drugs.

“The suspect was arrested in Harvey Road, Morningside and four full moons of rock cocaine and R5 000 cash was seized by the police. The recovered drugs had a street value of more than R6 000,” said Mbele.

In another operation on 10 August, police pounced on a suspect in Wade Road, in the Ezimangweni area and a number of drugs were found.

“Police recovered 71 packets of meth, six packets of cocaine powder, four packets of magic mushrooms, 13 LSD pieces and R400 cash. The confiscated drugs have a street value of more than R25 000,” she said.

Mbele said police will continue with similar operations to eliminate the proliferation of drugs in the province.
