Sewing centre needs help

This sewing centre has been in existence since 1976.

ST John’s Sewing Centre at St John’s Church in Clark Road, is looking for an assistant to help with sewing classes.

The sewing lessons are held on Thursday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm.

“I have lost two helpers this year through age and unavailability. This sewing centre has been in existence since 1976 when Bridgid Oppenheimer suggested starting Centres of Concern in churches. Most churches had them and we started with sewing, cookery and literacy classes. We are down to sewing classes only,” said convenor Jan Alcock, adding that when classes opened in March this year five people eagerly awaited her arrival.

Jan said the centre has machines and patterns but she really would like a helper to assist with classes.
